Q. Does this plan cover from the first day of confinement?A. Yes, benefits will be paid from the first full day of confinement for a maximum of 365 days for each period of confinement.
Q. Does it cover rehabilitation?A. No, the plan does not cover rehabilitation.
Q. Do I have to wait for an open enrollment period to enroll or can I enroll anytime?A. There is no open enrollment period, you may enroll at any time as long as you are working 20 or more hours per week, you are under age 70, and remain a dues paying APWU member.
Q. If I am admitted to the emergency room and discharged within 24 hours, or if I go in as an outpatient will this plan cover me?A. No, you must be hospital confined for at least 24 hours to receive benefits. The hospital must charge you for a full day of room and board.
Q. I'm planning on retiring soon, can I stay in the plan?A. Yes, as long as you remain a dues paying APWU member. The maximum benefit amount you will be eligible for as a retiree is $50 per day benefit. If you have a higher benefit amount when you retire, your benefit amount will be reduced to $50 per day.
